The African Slum Photo Festival serves as a distinguished platform for emerging photographers residing in the slums of Africa to exhibit their work.

This event fosters meaningful interactions, encourages educational exchanges, and facilitates the sharing of ideas among professionals within the photography community.

Our Main Focus

We empower young people by teaching photography, film, and life skills. While fostering creative expression, the foundation also addresses critical social issues, including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

In Mathare Valley, The Mwelu Foundation is a beacon of hope, creativity, and empowerment. By integrating SRHR into its programs, it is tackling critical issues head-on and creating a more informed and resilient generation. Through the lens of a camera and the power of education, Mathare’s youth are rewriting their stories and shaping a healthier, brighter future.
